The Pursuit of the Perfect Body


It's always interesting to hear a person's response when I tell him I'm a personal trainer.  Last week when I told a lady I am a personal trainer, she said, "I'm on day two of Jenny Craig."  I asked her how she liked it so far.  She replied that the food wasn't very good.  So the question becomes, why would you suffer through that just to lose weight?  Are we that desperate that we will do anything during the pursuit of the perfect body?

I think you should enjoy losing weight.  If that's your goal, you should be motivated to achieve weight loss, not dread the process.  Isn't that why diets fail in the long run?  You either hate being on a diet and give up or stick to the diet, lose the weight, then gain it back when you resume your normal eating habits (which made you gain weight in the first place.)  I've said it many times before, but until you learn to eat healthy the majority of the time, you will always be on an endless weight loss loop.

The other part of the story told above is that the women did not need to lose weight, in my opinion.  She was slim and had a figure that many women dream about having.  My next question:  when will we ever be happy and at peace about the body we live in?  Instead of focusing on what we don't like about our bodies, we need to identify the positive.

Please leave a comment about what you like about your body.  Be specific.  For me, it's my eyes, shoulders, arms and my feet.  Let's respect ourselves.  Understand that we are not perfect and perfection is an impossible goal to achieve.  Living a healthy, active life and accepting yourself is a very real way to attain a beautiful body.
